28th May 2012 witnessed the discovery of one of the most lethal malwares in the history of computers. The malware termed Flame (also know as Flamer, sKyWIper, Skywiper and Flamer.A), has been making a lot of news around the world and has infected approximately 1000 machines (as suggested by Kaspersky Lab), with victims including governmental organizations, educational institutions and private individuals. As of May 2012, the countries most affected are Iran, Israel, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. However these figures are only based on approximations and early research and the actual number of infected machines can be lesser / greater than the figures quoted here.
However, if you still want to make some precautionary measures (which we absolutely suggest) and make sure that your computer is clean from this deadly malware, this is what you can do.
Bitdefender Labs has released the removal tools for the Flame malware which can be downloaded from the following links:
Download the appropriate version of the tool based on your version of Windows and perform a complete system scan. Note that if you are already protected by a Bitdefender security solution, you do not need to run the removal tool.
